DAMN GOOD MONDAY.
I successfully destroyed my Biomedical Ethics midterm for Philosophy, then after hectic race back and forth to finalize and print, I published my first (26pg) newsletter for UCSD Circle K, then aced my BIBC 140 Biofuels quiz, today’s arm workout made my arms ginormous. Thanks Luckee! Lastly, made a late night run and ate some delicious watermelon. Time to reward myself with a good read and Modern Family!
I can’t take it anymore
Let me endure a collision of a eighteen wheeler. A typhoon rupturing the insides of me. Torch the materialism, the inconsistency, the incompetence. A pernicious rather than protective facade. A cataclysm of absolute veracity. My words are dry, reek of stress, decaying in coherency. A carcass. Like my state of being.

An enlightening conversation: Why Circle K?
It appeared to be just another three hour gym session with my roommate, Luckee, which evolved philosophically to me questioning myself, why this organization? Why not a professional pre-medical fraternity that would be more suited for my idealistic future? Why not a social Greek fraternity to appease my gregarious nature and attempt to fulfill that frivolous college experience? Why choose an organization that is immensely devoted to community service?
Let me start from the beginning.
In my recent instated term as Public Relations Chair, I attempt to revolutionize the intra-campus relations. Circle K should be known for its prodigiously altruistic accomplishments. In addition, make this organization known by branching out further, offering our services to our on campus community.
Luckee is part of this heteronormative, predominantly white, stressing great masculinity, fraternity. Pi Kappa Alpha or prominently known as PIKE throughout the Greek community. He expressed interest in connecting his fraternity with my organization. At initial thought, I deemed it such an ludicrous idea, incredulous at the notion of the merge. C’mon, compare the physiques of PIKE and their social “tenants” with Circle K’s principles and accomplishments. Dubious to perceive how polar organizations may cooperate. However, I have great hopes that this collaboration will result in something pivotal. Remember! An Ethiopian man in hunger had berries, too bitter to eat, and hot water; he boiled them which consequently made them harder to consume. Ultimately though, the product, the liquid is what we universally call today, coffee. My point is mixing two unexpected things may result in something worthwhile.
I digress from my initial question. So why Circle K? I understood that PIKE, like many other social fraternities/sororities engage in philanthropies. I told Luckee, we do that on a daily basis, philanthropies don’t necessarily need to be large scale, but impacting one individual life, is impacting one individual’s world. In a sense, we are changing the world.
Circle K has already embodied every question he has come to asked.
Social?: So yeah, Greek life make friends across the county and perhaps a few cities up and there. Circle K, we make friends with California, Nevada and Hawaii. I’m fortunate to say I have friends from all three (CA obviously) and we do get to chill often at many service events.
Networking?: California- Nevada- Hawaii district! UCLA, Cal, U.Nevada LV, U.Hawaii Milo, etc. Diverse individuals of all types of majors and direction in their academic careers.
Beneficial to my future?: I’m pre-medicine so how has Circle K benefit me? We fundraise for various organizations in support of medicinal research. Pediatric Trauma Prevention, Maternal and neonatal tetanus elimination, countless blood drives, and recently I’ve been in contact with Cystic Fibrosis Foundation coordinator for Procurement. Perhaps, I’m not interning in lab performing mundane activities of centrifuging but I am doing something practical in pre-medicine, and that is raising awareness and funds for cures and prevention.
Ranking?: Don’t get me started. UCSD Circle K is #1 in our California-Nevada-Hawaii district, racking over 11,000 service hours and single-handedly raising over $18,000 over Pediatric Trauma Prevention. You tell me what your organization has done recently, because we do this every year.
Fun?: So we may not engage in inebriated festivities and such, but hey let me know if you throw a dance on a 3 decker yacht with attendance from all over California.
In summation, I’m not part of just any organization. I am part of one of the best.

Today this tree, perhaps someday this Sequoia. To say I have small aspirations would be a colossal understatement. Always on an incessant ascend to the top. Another year made its imprint and now onward to 2012! HNYE
